After several years of research and testing, a compact "cochlear wearable core thermometer" has been developed. The hardware of the cochlear thermometer consists of a negative temperature coefficient (NTC) sensor embedded in a flexible precision circuit (FPC), an advanced small Bluetooth module, a miniature 8 mAh battery, and a skin friendly and low irritant silicone shell material. The length and height of the entire device are 25 mm × 18 mm, with a maximum ear diameter of 5 mm and a weight of only 1.3 g. It has high portability and wearing comfort, and can work continuously for 24-36 hours after being fully charged. The entire device is packaged with lightweight, 3D printed materials and skin friendly silicone to reduce irritation to the ear canal. The cochlear wearable core thermometer developed by the team integrates advanced negative temperature sensor temperature measurement, circuit miniaturization technology, data transmission technology, and Internet of Things technology, and is expected to achieve highly integrated intelligent long-term monitoring of human core temperature.


Accurate measurement of core body temperature can assist in the diagnosis and prevention of human diseases. At present, commonly used core thermometers for surgical incubation, rectal or oral implantation are not only inconvenient for measurement, but also unable to perform sustainable and dynamic temperature monitoring, which is the key to diagnosing diseases. Given that some wearable thermometers on the market are bulky or have limited precision, Shenzhen Flamingo Technology Co,. Ltd has developed a new type of in ear wearable device that obtains core body temperature through the ear socket, achieving non-invasive wireless monitoring and minimizing the daily impact on the wearer.

This project is based on the principle of negative temperature sensor temperature measurement (NTC), creating a miniaturized electrical circuit software to collect and process temperature data, and combining flexible circuit technology (FPC) to enhance the fit between the temperature measuring instrument and the human cochlear structure, achieving lightweight and comfortable core temperature measurement of the human body. The device has a length and height of 25mm * 18mm, a maximum ear diameter of 5mm, and a weight of only 1.3g, making it highly portable and comfortable to wear. The device adopts a miniature 8mAh battery, which can work continuously for 24-36 hours. The entire device is packaged with lightweight, 3D printed materials and skin friendly silicone to reduce ear irritation. This device has conducted a large number of clinical human experiments to evaluate its performance. Compared with other temperature measurement methods, the CBT obtained by implantable thermometers is closest to the gold standard of human core temperature, which is the rectal temperature.

This achievement has opened up a new direction of "body temperature and disease diagnosis and treatment", empowering new breakthroughs in traditional clinical diagnosis and treatment fields, and efficiently utilizing body temperature to regulate and intervene in the body's immune and nervous systems. Two authorized invention patents, five utility model patents, and two design patents have been obtained, and the projects have been appraised and accepted by the Science and Technology Commission. They have won the third prize in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology competition and have signed a cooperative development agreement with Huawei. The application scope covers chronic disease management, postoperative recovery, intensive care, public health, large-scale screening, personal health management, daily health monitoring and other fields.
